Canadian soprano Sarah Marie Kramer has appeared at the Semperoper Dresden as Helmwige in Willy Decker’s celebrated Ring cycle under Christian Thielemann, and in Wagner’s Ring des Nibelungen at Theater Basel as Gerhilde and the Dritte Norn. Her acclaimed debut as Sieglinde in Die Walküre at Longborough Festival Opera established her as a leading interpreter of the Wagnerian repertoire.
Kramer’s operatic repertoire spans a wide range of dramatic and lyric-dramatic roles, including Isolde (in concert), Freya, Brünnhilde (Siegfried), the Third Norn, Gutrune, Elisabeth, Chrysothemis, the Prima Donna/Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera), Manon Lescaut and Die Fremde Fürstin (Rusalka). She has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Christian Thielemann, Jonathan Nott, Leo McFall, Elias Grandy, Richard Egarr, Masaaki Suzuki, Reinbert de Leeuw, Anthony Negus, Friedemann Layer, Rémy Ballot, and Thomas Rösner. Her festival appearances include the Richard Strauss Tage, Longborough Festival Opera, the Aldeburgh Festival, and the Oxford Lieder Festival. She was selected by Katharina Wagner to participate in the Bayreuth Festival Master Class, and has been a finalist in major international competitions including the Lauritz Melchior International Singing Competition for Young Wagnerians and the International Richard Strauss Competition in Munich. A dedicated concert and recital artist, Kramer performs a wide-ranging repertoire from Beethoven, Brahms, and Mahlerto Wagner and Strauss. She made her Wiener Konzerthaus debut as Magna Peccatrix in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, further solidifying her presence on the European concert stage. She holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague and completed the Amsterdam Opera Certificate at the Dutch National Opera Academy.
